REVISION - Exile - YA Fantasy - Eric Morgan

Exile is a 69,000 word YA Fantasy, told from two points of view: fifteen year old Jason and thirteen year old Phoenix.

Jason hopes to leave the remote salt mining city of Korenz and travel across the mountains to the great cities, just like his older brother. But unlike his brother, who is serious and practical, Jason's passion is for the guitar music of the Sedani, shifty nomads that ply the wilderness between the villages. When Paul is murdered by Sedani bandits, Jason's best friend's mother, a Sedani peace hostage, is attacked and killed by angry Korenzians. Korenzian priests decree that the body will remain unburied until the Sedani turn over the killers. Helping his best friend, Omar, will mean turning his back on his brother's murderers. When Jason acts, both young men must flee for their lives. Soon they are trapped underground in an ancient shrine to the Sedani goddess of music, surrounded by fanatical Korenzian clerics.

Far away, in the vast port city of Ephyra, the patriarch of a prominent merchant family has been poisoned. Following ancient tradition, his body is launched into the river Acheron in an enchanted boat, where it will enter the river cavern leading to the Underworld. His daughter Phoenix places a book of his favorite poems next to his beloved guitar and watches the boat disappear.

Within days, Phoenix watches with distress as her Uncle Gobbo moves in to take over her father's shipping fleet, bringing along a mysterious young man rumored to be a black sorcerer. Trusted henchmen and long time allies soon turn up dead. But most bewildering is her mother's weakness and passivity regarding Gobbo's disgusting behavior. Then one day her father comes to her in a dream and warns her that she must take her mother and flee. But running away will mean giving up her new position as an apprentice ballerina with the greatest ballet troupe in the world.

The goddess of music has the power to bring Jason, Omar, and Phoenix together, but they will need to trust one another to overcome their problems. And after what they've been through, trust is in short supply.

Ember - YA Science Fantasy - Victoria Davenport

Falcon has a past she can’t remember-- one the rebellion doesn’t want her to forget.

Living in the slums of exile, 17-year-old Falcon and her family—a pack of street-rat kids—rely on cunning, blades, and the grace of corrupt lords to survive in the toxic sludge heaps. They are still paying for the crimes of their forefathers—a century old rebellion that ended in exile. Now the Wall that isolates them is about to come down, giving them a chance at humanity once again.

Amarathines, a race of humans believed to be descended from the gods, are killed and harvested for the ancient magic that runs through their veins—magic that has the power to preserve life. The Sovereign of the empire breeds amaranthines solely to harvest them, using their blood to escape death yet another decade. Once the savior of the empire, he has become more god than man, and is spiraling out of control.

The long-running racial tension between humans and amaranthines erupts into violence, and half-amaranthine herself, Falcon becomes a target. The pack must learn to fight an enemy that can’t bleed: an empire overcome with hatred and greed, blindly descending into the chaos it came from. But as the pack fights their own war, the rebel Order has plans to ignite another—to reawaken the century-old rebellion and start a second Great War among all four empires. They will do anything to shape Falcon into the empress they need—an empress that will unite the races and bring peace back to Aurata.

None of this will matter if the Sovereign has his way, and the rebellion is crushed for good, before it can truly begin. The entirety of the Dregs will be enslaved to fuel his hunger for technology, power, and immortality—costing Falcon both her pack and her life.

EMBER is a YA science fantasy novel of 73,000 words that is the first in a planned duology. Told in four distinct points of view—including Falcon (who has yet to discover her true power), Crow (an ex-drug lord’s assassin seeking redemption), Electra (an undercover rebel agent and empire royalty), and the Sovereign of the empire himself—each perspective gives insight into the raw insides of their world, the dynamics of a patchwork family, and how Falcon plays a role in all of their lives, whether she knows it or not.

REVISED - Ensnared By You - Historical Romance - Lana Klaydon

Bred to strike hard and fast, Lysander belongs to an elite guild of assassins known as The Shadows. When their latest mission goes awry, he’s betrayed by his own and left for dead. From the depths of oblivion, Lysander awakens to an angel caressing him in the most intimate of places…and to find he’s a bedridden cripple. With the police hunting The Shadows, he’s trapped with no choice but to claim he has no recollection of who he is.

Spirited country miss Lady Olivia Woodward is mortified when she’s caught stroking him down there. In her defense, she was bathing him. It’s the least she could do after he took a bullet meant for her father. As death threats against her father escalate, Olivia nurses the enigmatic hero back to health. But he defies all rules of convalescence. He’s arrogant. Exasperating. Infuriating. And gorgeous as sin. Attraction sizzles as tempers fly, clashes of ire caving to torrid, delirious pleasure.

He’s no hero. Lysander knows every kiss is stolen, every touch forbidden. His past will resurface, and when it does, it will destroy Olivia’s trust...for he was sent to kill her father, not save him. As the police close in on unraveling his identity, The Shadows lurk in the darkness, reminding Lysander to finish his task. But they’re not the only ones after Olivia’s father. Another sinister force is at play, for the death threats are not The Shadows’ work. With the clock ticking down, Lysander is torn. Torn between duty to his brethren and risking everything for the only woman he’s ever loved.

Diamond on a Lizard's Tail - Mystery - Pat Harris

Dear Agent,

I am currently seeking representation for my mystery novel, DIAMOND ON A LIZARD’S TAIL (81,000 words).  Given your interest in mysteries, I thought it might be a good addition to your list.

When toxicologist Carol Westin is arrested for leaking classified information from the New Jersey Department of Health, she is not concerned at first. She didn’t do it, after all, and already has her hands full dealing with disgruntled citizen activists and appeasing smarmy political appointees.

But when Carol gets arrested again, this time for murder, and learns that someone is killing reporters to get to her files, she reluctantly turns to the only person who can help her, outrageous political blogger and self-described whistleblower, Bulldog Kominski. It was Bulldog’s post of the classified files that got Carol into trouble in the first place, and it’s Bulldog who must help her get out of it.  The trouble is, they can’t stand each other.

When the unlikely duo finally come close to uncovering who leaked Carol’s files and who is killing people to get them, they discover a corrupt partnership that was hiding right under Carol’s nose all along.

Having worked as an environmental scientist and managed a group of 60 environmental scientists, including toxicologists, in a state government research division for 20 years, I draw from a vast reservoir of experience.  I have published over 30 scientific articles alone and collaboratively in technical journals like Environmental Science and Technology, but this is my first piece of fiction.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Pat Harris

REVISED - Unbelievable Misadventures of Avery Mann - MG Contemporary Fantasy - Joseph Miller

Avery loves three things: comic books, magic tricks, and avoiding trouble. Too bad the T-word follows him around like a herd of black cats with long claws and sharp teeth. Even his eleventh birthday can't stop the parade of bad luck, which only gets worse when Mortissa, the Wicked Witch of the Midwest, tricks him into freeing a murderous raven named Nevermore from its cage. Not only does this magically bond him to the cold-blooded bird, but it also makes him a useful tool in the witch's plans to remake the world into a twisted fantasyland.

As if learning magic is real and storybook characters have been living in our world for ages weren't enough to take in, Avery also finds out his grandparents are magi, their cat is the real Cheshire, and Long John Silver runs a restaurant/spy ring in town. Oh, and to cap everything off, Avery discovers he has the ability to alter reality with his imagination.

Mind = Blown!

As his day goes from frying pan to fire, Avery discovers he's not the only child being used by Mortissa. Olivia, a girl who can grant wishes, is also under the witch's control. With time running out, Avery's only chance to throw a flying monkey wrench into Mortissa's plans is to break into Dante's Inferno and release her mother, the Wicked Witch of the East. Preferably, this would be a job for Superman, but since the slacker isn't around Avery and Olivia will need to summon their inner heroes and try to put things right themselves. And if they fail, Mortissa will be able to keep them as her slaves, the world as they know it might end, and Avery will never get to finish reading his Ultimate Spider-Man collection.

REVISED x 2 - The Blind Sculptor – Historical Fantasy - NayWrites

For millennia, the name "Medusa" has inspired dread – and the best known version of her myth focuses on the prince who beheaded her. THE BLIND SCULPTOR is a split POV novel giving this iconic villainess a new voice that will resonate with one in four women.
Rejected by her divine parents for being born mortal, Medusa is raised by a priestess of the Goddess Athena. When she becomes a striking beauty, her uncle rapes her—inside the Temple of Athena, before Athena’s very eyes. Furious at the desecration of her temple, Athena defies logic and punishes Medusa for her uncle’s crime. REVISED - The Blind Sculptor – Historical Fantasy - NayWrites

This entry has been revised - please see the new post here.

For millennia, the name "Medusa" has inspired dread - and we recall the beautiful and immortal woman who was changed into a monster… and whose glance turns men to stone.
The best known version of her legend focuses on the prince who beheaded her. THE BLIND SCULPTOR is a split POV novel and gives this iconic villainess a voice for the first time.

Rejected by her parents, Medusa is raised by a priestess of the Goddess Athena. When she becomes a striking beauty, her uncle rapes her—inside the Temple of Athena, before Athena’s very eyes. Defying logic, Athena punishes Medusa for her uncle’s crime. As a result, Medusa’s legend is born: her hair twists with snakes, her face contorts hideously, and her gaze turns deadly.

Two hundred years later, Atheos, a slave and a stonemason, searches for Medusa. If he helps Prince Perseus kill her, he’ll gain his freedom. If he fails, he’ll either be turned to stone by Medusa or be executed by his king.

Before Atheos completes his quest, however, misfortune strikes.

The Goddess Athena deliberately targets Atheos, blinding and banishing him to a remote island. There he is cared for by a mysterious woman with a haunted past named Medi. An unexpected friendship grows between them, awakening Medi’s desire for a life beyond the island.  When it becomes clear that Prince Perseus is after Medi’s head, the prince’s arrival spoils any hope of escape. Now, Medusa must overcome her betrayed trust - and choose between either helping Atheos or saving her own long, suffering life.

THE BLIND SCULPTOR is a completed 98,000 word work of historical fantasy.

The Blind Sculptor – Historical Fantasy - NayWrites

For millennia, the name "Medusa" has inspired dread - and we recall the beautiful and immortal woman who was changed into a monster ... and whose glance turns men to stone.

The best known version of her legend focuses on the prince who beheaded her. THE BLIND SCULPTOR re-tells the story from her side, giving this iconic villainess a voice for the first time.

Prince Perseus sneaks inside the palace of Lady Styx, where he is caught stealing weapons. To earn them and learn Medusa’s secret location, he must survive a coma. If he survives … Medusa - cousin of Perseus, Athena and the Lady Styx - will be murdered.  Lady Styx, who is known for her family loyalty, appeals to Athena for compassion on Medusa’s behalf.

Athena reluctantly agrees,… but deliberately targets Atheos, blinding him and banishing him to a remote island. There he is cared for by a mysterious woman with a haunted past named Medi. An unexpected friendship grows between them, awakening Medi’s desire for a life beyond the island. When Medi reveals that she is in fact Medusa, Atheos secretly petitions Athena to free Medusa from her fate of certain death at the hands of Perseus. Unmoved, Athena counters that Medusa’s blood will cure Atheos’ blindness, but only after her death, giving Atheos even more reason to carry out his original mission. When Medusa learns of Athena and Atheos’ prior encounter, his role in Perseus’ quest, and how he stands to benefit from her death, she must overcome her betrayed trust and choose between either helping Atheos or saving her own long, suffering life.

THE BLIND SCULPTOR is a completed 98,000 word work of historical fantasy.

Getting dragged into an inter-dimensional conspiracy to remake the world into a twisted fantasyland throws a flying monkey wrench into his summer plans, which did not include magically bonding himself to a murderous raven or making fishy deals with Long John Silver.
