Not sure why this is the first time I got tripped up by the word "angel". I thought it was a literal angel. Maybe that's why I keep having trouble placing this as a historical.
ReplyDeleteThe first paragraph feels tighter, but I had to read the second paragraph 3 times. All the detail in the third sentence breaks the flow from her bathing him and the reason she's nursing him.
I like the third paragraph a lot - I think you've honed that down very well - it's clear and the stakes are spelled out. And they are compelling.
